Synopsis
Written in a stylized, lyrical, rhythmic language that is often comic yet at the same time very moving, Lysistrata retells Aristophanes’ original story of women convincing their men to stop fighting by withholding that which they desire most– sex. In a timeless, universal setting, Lysistrata leads a female chorus consisting of Queen Elizabeth I, Twiggy, Emmeline Pankhurst, Margaret Thatcher and the Virgin Mary – among other eminent women – against their male counterparts, in bawdy, poetic and moving exploration of the way men and women communicate (among themselves and with each other) in the never ending battle of the sexes
